The Statue of Guan Gong on Dr. Lin's altar
I. Supplication
(A) Lineage Refuge Tree Supplication
Original Purity, oh, Patriach Guru Chen!
Vajra Lotus, oh, Guru Lin!
The Right Dharma lineage of Manjusri and Guan Yin,
Harmonized wisdom and compassion to spread everywhere!
(B) Supplication to Protector Guan Gong
Long set the epitome of righteous loyalty for generations,
Chinese all over the world pay respect and tribute to you;
Bodhisattva Qie Lan attends well to all calls of his duties,
Propagation and continuation of Dharma depends on you!
II. Prostration
Namo Bodhisattva Qie Lan
Perform one prostration while reciting the holy name once.
In total, repeat thus nine times.
III. Offerings
Present offerings of incense, candle, flower, fruit, and then water, one kind at a time, in front of the holy image of Protector Guan Gong.
IV. Prayer
We practice Dharma solely for the attainment of enlightenment,
Sentient beings are waiting with extreme urgency for salvation;
Karmic hindrances and devils’ interferences are hard to extinguish,
The paths of Dharma rely on your awesome power to remain safe.
Out of compassion for the suffering of all being, grant us your help!
All the way till enlightenment attained, never leave us for a second!
Whatever we need for propagation of the Dharma, do gather for us!
Thus accumulating merits for speedy attainment of enlightenment.
V. Dedication
Ever Spreading of the Lineage
Marrow of the Right Dharma passed down from generation to generation,
Succeeding predecessors and leading followers to turn the Dharma Wheel;
Everlasting pure lineage guided by holy Gurus and guarded by Protectors,
A never-ending lamp shinning through everywhere to enlighten all beings!
Auspicious Completion
Epilog
A few days ago disciple Wu Wei Jian requested me to write a simple ritual of Guan Gong for supplication of his blessings. The next morning during my sleep I saw a statue of Guan Gong sitting leisurely. This should be the omen of permission to write reverently a simple ritual, so I composed it today.
