密宗修本尊的觀想中，教說要將全法界一切佛、菩薩的智悲、功德都收入本尊；這樣的觀想，照一般的想法，好像私心很重；是不是與「無我」的教示矛盾了？ 從本尊觀的儀軌整體來看，從皈依、發心、觀空，到觀本尊，都是為一切眾生的；並且在觀空時已將對一切事物的執取放捨了。本尊是從空性中生起的，毫無「自我」。 本尊觀中的上供下施及種種作為也全是普益一切眾生的。本尊與全法界是一體的，因此其智悲及功德與一切佛、菩薩的智悲及功德是無二的。所以，觀本尊收入一切佛、菩薩的智悲、功德乃是理應如此。 因為本尊由空性生起，與全法界是一體，所以，本尊觀中的所有運作，都是全法界「整體的運作」。只是因為本尊觀為在行者個體的位置出現，所以難免宿來的習氣引起「自私」的誤解。 希望此篇能導正修習「本尊觀」的行者心態，使真實行者早契本尊的證悟。

Activities Born of Totality Yutang Lin
In the rituals for practicing Yidam visualization in Tantric Dharma it is taught that all Wisdom, Compassion and Merits of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the whole Dharmadhatu are to be gathered into the Yidam; such visualization, from the ordinary point of view, seems to be rather ″selfish″—is it or is it not in contradiction to the teachings on ″non-self″? When rituals on Yidam visualization are studied on the whole, from refuge, development of Bodhicitta, visualization on Blank Essence, to visualization on Yidam, all are performed for all sentient beings’ sake; furthermore, during visualization on Blank Essence grasping to all things and matters had been renounced. Yidam arises from within Blank Essence, and hence it is completely devoid of ″self″. Within visualization on Yidam, making offerings to all holy beings, almsgiving to all sentient beings, and various other activities are all for universally benefitting all sentient beings. Yidam and the whole Dharmadhatu are in oneness, and hence His Wisdom, Compassion and Merits are none other than the Wisdom, Compassion and Merits of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Therefore, visualization on Yidam gathering the Wisdom, Compassion and Merits of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas is definitely a matter of propriety. Since Yidam arises from within Blank Essence, and is in oneness with the whole Dharmadhatu, and hence, all activities, performed during visualization on Yidam, are ″activities born of totality (of the whole Dharmadhatu). ″ Only due to the fact that Yidam is visualized as appearing at the same position as the practitioner’s body, that it is hardly avoidable that one’s habitual tendencies led one to the misunderstanding that the activities are ″self-centered″. May this essay shed lights on correct mentalities for practitioners of Yidam visualizations so that genuine practitioners will attain oneness with Yidam sooner!
