眼界全失靈明在,耳聞無聲心清醒;
設想六根停作用,佛與眾生同契入。

吾人感官之作用,若受因緣之限制而失其一,雖有不便,卻無礙於心地之靈明。循此而設想六根全部停止作用,則為無眼界、無耳界、無鼻界、無舌界、無身界並且無意識界之情況。如此活生生,無有形跡,無可捉摸,不可思議,即是佛與眾生共通而不可分之無限一體。

Six Senses All Inactive Yutang Lin

Eyesight is gone, yet consciousness remains.
Ears no longer hear sounds, mind still awake.
Conceive that all six senses cease to function,
Buddhas and sentient beings merge into one.

Comment:

If one of the functions of our senses, as a result of limiting conditions, is lost, then there will be inconvenience but no hindrance to our mental clarity. Pursuing in this way to the extreme of all six senses, including consciousness, ceased to function, i.e., a state without senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling and consciousness. Such a lively state without traces, intangible and inconceivable, would be the limitless oneness of all that Buddhas and sentient beings all share and are inseparable.
